The lightweight concept
of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo.

By using multiphase steels the body of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo offers an exceptionally good balance of optimised weight and all-round solidity. The frameless aluminium doors reduce the overall weight of the car by 28 kilograms while the cast crankshaft is three kilograms lighter than a conventional crankshaft which not only reduces weight but also allows the engine to rev more freely. This is BMW EfficientDynamics: reduced fuel consumption, increased driving pleasure.
